When we were about to have our first child, we were sufficiently warned to prepare for parenthood by setting the expectation that our lives of freedom and doing what we wanted when we wanted it were over. We were informed that if we thought this way, when the little one does come, we wouldn’t be frustrated at the new restrictions we would surely experience. So that is the frame of mind that we took, and to be honest, it wasn’t bad at all (probably partly because we set our expectations so low). As more amazing and energetic babies came into our family, I began to realize that you can still accomplish goals, get out, and do enjoyable things. This is only possible, though, if you are prepared. Later in this post, I’ll share some of the tips, checklists, and baby on the go kit ideas that has helped my excursions with baby be not as stressful and still enjoyable.
What I never realized fully at the time I was trying to find ways to get out and do things, is that my little one could be feeling the same way. It is all too easy to put the baby in the carrier, straight into the car seat, and then straight into the stroller, and not realize that even though they have been out, they really have been cooped up all day. Just like I need to get out sometimes, my baby needs the same thing. Being able to get out, move around, and experience new things is what helps a baby thrive. At such a young age, enriching activities like playing and rolling on the floor with mom, or getting out and experiencing new sights and sounds can make a huge difference for them, and allow them to grow. My babies have always been very active. They crawl everywhere, and get into everything – I’m sure you can relate. All of them have been walking by one, which forced us to be more conscious of a constantly moving kid. I found that with all this movement, their diaper can sometimes irritate them. Recently I have been using Huggies Little Movers Diapers, and I have been impressed with the way they are designed specifically to allow my baby to comfortably move around and experience the world. From the shape design, to the high quality soft materials they use, it is very clear that comfort and movement were in mind when this diaper was designed. There are all sorts of different little design features that I would have never thought of, such as a second velcro to keep the diaper secure and more intimately fitting, or a softer material that goes against the skin and stays soft when it has absorbed moisture. The material feels more like fabric than crepe paper or plastic. One other thing that I never see anymore is that soggy bottom diaper that hangs down to their knees as they run throughout the house. I can literally tell my baby isn’t bothered by their diaper anymore.
When you are taking your moving baby out, the most simple and basic thing to do is to plan ahead of time for your outings and errands. However, days don’t always go as planned. Things come up. It’s understandable that sometimes you have to run errands you didn’t want to run or didn’t even have time to run, but when you have one of those days when you just want to get out, it’s a great idea to have a go-to list of enjoyable places that you can visit where you can have a stress-free time with your kids in tow. Some of those favorite places for us include the park, splash pad, kid-friendly restaurants, the mall, zoo, and of course – grandma’s house! Even though these are great places to visit with active kids, if we didn’t pack the essentials it can still be very difficult.
When we venture to these places and everyday pit stops, I always make sure I have all the active baby essentials to ensure they have a good time too. Because after all, when they’re happy I’m happy! One of the key things that I have found is making sure my baby is as comfortable as possible. A big part of that is making sure my baby’s diaper is quality, comfortable, and dry as long as possible. The best diaper I have found for this again is Huggies Little Movers Diapers. What I like about them on the road is they keep my baby dry longer because of the DryTouch Liner that absorbs the moisture on contact, as well as the Leak Lock System that prevents leaks for up to 12 hours. Twelve hours means fewer diaper changes, which means less supplies needed, and more free time to get things done while you are out! I have compiled a list of some of the other essentials that have come in handy while out and about with the kiddos.

Although I try to keep most of these essentials in the diaper bag, I also like to put together on the go kits for the car and for grandma’s house. That way you are always prepared in case the diaper bag is left at home or someone had forgotten to re-stock the bag. I cannot tell you how many times we’ve used this kit while we were out and about to come to the rescue.
Life is crazy, especially as a parent of an active little baby or toddler. Finding time to get out of the house, even if it’s just for a quick errand, is not only good for the parent, but it is great stimulation and enrichment for the child to experience new things. So, get out, be prepared and have fun experiencing adventures with your baby!
