We can do HARD things.
That’s our family’s motto.
Over the past several years, we have tried to teach our kids that we can indeed do hard things. Life isn’t always easy, and occasionally we have something hard to do. Hard might be defined differently depending on the person your talking to, but for kids, LOTS of things are hard.
Homework is hard.
Chores are hard.
Remembering to say “please” and “thank you” is hard.
Being a good example is hard.
NOT hitting your brothers and sisters is hard.
Reading for 20 minutes straight is hard.
Oh – if they only knew how easy they had it. Like I mentioned before, there are times when they really do have hard things to do, like:
Saying goodbye to dear friends who are moving away or actually having to move away from grandparents, cousins and everyone they’ve every known. Starting a new year at school can be hard or even finding friends in a new place can be difficult. No matter how hard things can be, we try to teach our kids that we can do it. That we can work it out, and that it will be for our good. That is why we have this motto. Whenever they get down and start to cry, or even complain, we’ll ask them, “What can Merkleys do?” Their response, “hard things!”
With the motto in mind, I asked Melanie of Hello Melly Designs to create this hand-lettered print to print out. It will definitely be printed and displayed in our home, especially in each of the kids’ rooms. She made it in 3 colors…
