It’s been almost a month already since my son’s birthday and I am just now blogging about it! Craziness, I know, but it was so much fun and couldn’t have been done without some amazing help. WARNING:{This is gonna be a LONG post with LOTS of pics – but they are AWESOME!}
My little guy turned 2 last month and I decided to do a Monster Theme Party.Ya know, a Monster Party for my little Monster.Fitting, right? ๐
Well, Amanda from Shindig Parties was AH-MAZING and designed a whole new Party Printable Set she sent me that I was able to use. What’s even better is she enlisted the help of her friend, Brittany, from Edible Details to make some coordinating fondant toppers.
Everything was perfect!
Here are some of things we did for the party as well as a TUTORIAL for a Monster Toss Game I made using Martha Stewart’s new line.
Today, I will be showing you how I did the Monster Throw.
Let me preface by saying that I was contacted by Plaid and was asked to review the new line of Martha Stewart Product.
I was THRILLED!
When I opened up my box of goodness, I saw that a lot of the products were paint and stencil related. SCORE!
I had already known that I wanted to make a Monster for a Bean Bag Toss AND Photo-Op, I knew the new Martha line would be perfect for the job!
To make a monster yourself, here is what you’ll need…
SUPPLIES:
-MDF
– Martha Stewart Paint {I used light green, apple green, blue and black}
-Martha Sponge Bottle Tops
-Paint Brush
-Jig Saw
DIRECTIONS:
1. Begin by finding a piece of MDF.
{I get mine at Home Depot for a few bucks.}
2. Then, I free-handed a monster and had the hubby cut out the mouth using a jig-saw. I then painted it with Martha’s new paint. Let me note that this paint is high-quality and only required one, maybe two coats on this dark brown MDF. {Saved me a TON of time!!}
3. Then, I used the sponge bottle tops which fit perfectly onto the paint bottles to give my monster some texture… It was so user-friendly that I even let Lily sponge for me {which is stating a lot because giving a 3 year old a bottle of paint isn’t always the smartest thing to do!} ๐
Super cool texture, right??
Makes it almost look HAIRY. ๐
3. From there I added a face, let the paint dry and then outlined it with a small line of black.
Pretty fun, right?!
Not only did it serve as a Bean Bag Toss Game…
BUT, it was also a great Photo-Op
{I was sure to make the mouth large enough for a kid’s face to fit in}…
All the little cousins LOVED it!!!
I was so glad I was able to check out the new Martha Stewart Line and use it for my Monster.
It turned out PERFECT!

Hi Janelle!! I got mine at the local party store – Party City… but I know there are lots of places online, like Polka Dot Market and The TomKat Studio. I would check there as well. ๐
It’s amazing to me the creativity of moms! I wish now my grandson was having a Monster party but he wants a Spiderman party. He’ll be 4 end of this month.
A member from our group at Cafemom Holiday and Party Crafts posted a Monster tulle wreath so I added this craft to her post with a link back to your blog for the tutorial.
I also want to share it on my craft blog, also with a link back here for the tutorial.
Thanks so much for sharing your creativity! ~Yolanda~
Hi I was just wondering how you constructed the back of the bean bag toss monster, so it could ‘catch’ the bean bagrs but also be removed for the photo prob. Also what supports did you use to stand it up?
Thanks
