Gak Gift

Gak Gift!! Very fun and inexpensive gift that kids will love!!

My kids love GAK!!

They have had so much fun the last few weeks whipping up a batch and playing with it for hours on end. As I already mentioned when I first posted about it, GAK has been the best and cheapest entertainment for the kiddos. They’re happy, I’m happy – it’s definitely a WIN-WIN situation!!

Seeing how popular this has been with my kids and cousins, I thought it would be fun to put together a cute Gak Gift (and no – not a GAG gift!) to give out to friends for birthdays, special occasions or even “just because”.

Get it? GOO’d??? Ya know, cuz Gak is like Goo… okay, maybe you don’t get it. 😉

And not only is this easy and cute, but it’s cheap!!! BONUS!!

SUPPLIES:

– Gift Container – I got mine in the dollar section at Target

– 2 bottles of Elmer’s Glue

– Container for Gak

– 1 tsp. Borax (I put a few teaspoons in a snack bag)

– Tube of Food Coloring

– Gak Prints

DIRECTIONS:

  1. so fun, I would be the parent that would never make it, because you know my kid would be the one to get it all over the carpet;p

  2. This is perfect for a “Dr. Doofenshmirtz” gift for my sons upcoming Phineas and Ferb birthday party. He’s turning 8 and I think his friends will enjoy this to take away. I’m making the gift bags from the Capri sun and kool aid jammer porches collected from neighbors. The only thing id decided to add to the bags before this is flavored colored popcorn that ive been tinkering with. I’m doing grape, tangerine, green apple and tropical punch. Thank you for the idea!

  3. Love this idea!!
We are headed to a 6 year old’s birthday party this weekend..and this will be perfect!

  4. Supers Idées !! Bravo !!! j’aime beaucoup votre blog. Beaucoup d’imagination et d’humour. Passez voir aussi ce que je fait, complèrtement différent. Continuez, c’est toujours un plaisir de s’arreter sur vos pages/

  5. I made GAK back when my kids were little, I highly recommend it! It has a cool texture that everyone likes to play with. You can always leave out the food coloring if you are worried about where your kids will get it.

  6. Did you put the Borax & food coloring in separate containers inside the tupperware or did you just squirt the food coloring in with some loose Borax?

      1. Thanks! I ended up putting the Borax in a big plastic spice container & putting a couple packets of Koolaid with it for the food coloring. It was a raffle prize for my family reunion, so I wanted it to be easily transportable. :o)

  7. I just love this very cute idea! I made some gak for my son today and while cleaning the kitchen during nap time, I thought this would be the perfect gift to take to one of his friends celebrating his 4th birthday tomorrow. They asked for no gifts but this is so cute and easy. Thanks so much for the printables.

    1. That’s what’s so great about this, it’s just cute and cheap!! I went to Target recently and bought ten bins and ten tupperwares just so I could have it all readily available for future gifts. Yay for cheap & cute!! 😀

  8. Thanks so much for this tutorial. My daughter learned about Gak at school this week and immediately wanted to make it! I love your gift giving idea! 🙂

  9. On the toxicity of borax, strait copy+paste from wikipedia

    Toxicity[edit]

Borax, sodium tetraborate decahydrate, is not acutely toxic.[22] Its LD50 (median lethal dose) score is tested at 2.66 g/kg in rats:[23] a significant dose of the chemical is needed to cause severe symptoms or death. The lethal dose is not necessarily the same for humans.

Sufficient exposure to borax dust can cause respiratory and skin irritation. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal distress including nausea, persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Effects on the vascular system and brain include headaches and lethargy, but are less frequent. “In severe poisonings, a beefy red skin rash affecting palms, soles, buttocks and scrotum has been described. With severe poisoning, erythematous and exfoliative rash, unconsciousness, respiratory depression, and renal failure.”[24]

Borax was added to the Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) candidate list on 16 December 2010. The SVHC candidate list is part of the EU Regulations on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals 2006 (REACH), and the addition was based on the revised classification of Borax as toxic for reproduction category 1B under the CLP Regulations. Substances and mixtures imported into the EU which contain Borax are now required to be labelled with the warnings “May damage fertility” and “May damage the unborn child”.[25]

    1. Borax (aka borateam) found in local grocers is NOT the industrial strength the above commenter references and is completely safe for use around kids, pregnant women, pets and even husbands. It is not, repeat NOT boric acid.

  10. We just made this as Christmas gifts for cousins. We made sure to make some extra so that my boys would have some to play with. They’ve been playing with it for and hour and half now. Thanks.
